Scout Account Transfer Request

Trailer on its way to Greensburg, KS

Members of the Greensburg Boy Scout Troop
Have you been wondering what became of our retired Troop Trailer and our Patrol Cook Boxes and Cooking Equipment? They now reside with the Troop in Greensburg, Kansas. After losing everything in the tornado, the Greensburg troop was very appreciative of the Troop 376 donation of a trailer and equipment.  Our donation was part of a relief effort crossing multiple Councils.

Recent News about Scouts:

Troop 376 Scouts assisted the American Legion and VFW by placing flags at Fairview Cemetery over the Memorial Day weekend.
Special Thanks to the following scouts and scouters for their help:
Jeremy, Patrick and Tammy Cruz
Jacob and Bill Bland
Kyle and Brandon Hamilton
Cameron Nave
Alex and Art Westhues
Jarrett and Joyce Muck
Mostly and Totally Bob Amsden
Jason Thon

Joe Whittenberg, who is our longest commuting scout joining us at summer camp from his home in St. Louis, threw the discus 147 feet April 25, 2006. That represents the seventh longest throw in the entire St. Louis metro area this season.

Connor Choice placed third in the shot pot at April 26, 2006 8th grade track meet.

Troop 376 Scouts, Jeremy Cruz and Austin Salmon, received 2006 H.O.P.E. awards from the Liberty School District Foundation for Meeting The Challenge. These awards are to Honor Outstanding Personal Achievement and one award in each category is given in each school. Jeremy received the award for South Valley Junior High School and Austin received the award for Lewis and Clark. In schools the size of these, this is quite an honor.

Alex Nason was the only student at Liberty Middle School to achieve Grand Recognition in the Duke Scholars program. A terrific achievement Alex!

376 scouts, Bryce McDonald and Jeff Rush, appear as residents of an insane asylum in the Liberty Junior High production of "The Curious Savage" tonight and tomorrow night. Typecasting continues to be a problem at the Junior High! Eric Staves and his muscles will run the crew for the production. If you are not heading for Roaring River this weekend, check out the play presented at South Valley Middle School at 7 pm tonight and tomorrow night.

Eric Staves and Bryce McDonald also received excellent ratings at the District Vocal Music contest. Now we know why are SPL and ASPL project so well when they scream at us to tuck our shirts in.

Troop 376 is proud of Elliott Kieffer and Cameron Nave for achieving State level recognition from Duke University on their ACT scores. Elliott and Cameron scored in the top 25% of the talent pool which consists of seventh grade students at the top of scholastic achievement and who have been asked to take the ACT at an earlier stage in their education. We are pleased each year to see scouts from the troop represented in this select group. Congratulations again to these two for their Top Gun scholastic status. Many High School students aspire to get these scores. They can now calculate the never-before-determined temperature in the center of a Goertz campfire.

Spencer Fish was team captain of the high school junior varsity Scholar Bowl team and finished state competition with an individual medal for third place. Now, if he would just get a hair cut and finish his Eagle project, the troop and his father would be very proud of him.

Connor Choice received a fourth place ribbon at the 8th grade track meet in the Discus. He practices by throwing first year scouts in the Sawmill pool. (just kidding)

Jake Staves won state diving on February 11 to complete an UNDEFEATED season.
This was Liberty's first diving state championship since 1993. Also competing at the state meet were 376 scouts Philip Meeks and Tarik Yameen. 376 scouts represented 3 of the 7 Liberty divers qualifying for, and competing, at state. All those pool hours at scout camp DO PAY OFF!

376 Scout Tristan Starner appears in Sundance Film Festival award winning movie CSA at tonight's premiere.
CSA, the new Spike Lee film directed by Kevin Wilmot will have its KC premiere at Screenland Theatre downtown Kansas City on February 24. The Official Selection film of the Sundance Festival is a dark comedy that traces the history of the United States with one small twist: the South won the Civil War.
Nancy Robinson, Tristan's mom, worked on the film as set crew and provided costumes for some of the scenes.
Catch the movie when you can to see a "376 movie star". And who would have known, the same person sewing on those patches at Mother's Club events sews for Academy Award nominated movies?

Brendan Lean starred as "Teen Angel" and "Johnny Casino" in the Liberty Middle School production of GREASE on March 10-12. "Mostly Bob" Amsden and Patrick Cruz served on the crew for the production. All three performances at Liberty Performing Arts Theatre were SOLD OUT!

Evan Edwards starred as "Rapunzel's Prince" in South Valley Middle School's musical, Into the Woods.

Congratulations to the following Troop 376 Scouts for being finalists for Court warming King:
Josh Bowles
Dustin Buell
Brian Knop
Ryan Salmon
See... High School Girls love 376 scouts.

Congratulations to 376 Scout Brett Agee for his third trip to state in Cross Country. After earning state championship medals his sophomore and junior years, Brett brought home silver in his Senior year. THREE top two medals in three years! Those who attend scout camp, are used to seeing Brett returning from his runs each morning. No one EVER sees him LEAVE camp at 5 am to begin his runs.

376 Eagle Scout, Chad Elliott, competed in the "District Competition" at Northland Career Center in Platte City and received 1st place in "Culinary Art." He will be going to "State" in Jefferson City, MO. on April 6th, 7th & 8th. He was judged on organization, cleanliness, timeliness, proper technique, food presentation, texture and taste. Could he have gained his skills on texture from scout campouts where dirt and grass sometimes find their way into meals?

Phil Isley is one of ten finalists for the prestigious Sophomore Pilgrimage. One of these 10 finalists will meet with state officials in Jefferson City representing Liberty High School. Phil was also nominated to attend the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C. where he will participate in a Model Congress, executive and judicial branch simulations.

So... if you ever worry that scouting is turning your sons into nerds in goofy uniforms, STOP WORRYING! 376 scouts are developing confidence, leadership skills and talents that will serve them well as they approach adulthood.
Congratulations to all these young men on their achievements. If your scout has news, the troop families would love to hear about them.

Congratulations to one of our Quartermasters for the newest scout in the troop

Youth protection training for adult leaders and parents is available via the Internet. In addition to making the training more convenient, providing the training via the Internet coincides with the recent change in the tour permit policy.

This online training is an alternative to (not a replacement for) the existing training. Upon completion of the training, the volunteer will provide their name, address, email address and council information. Once this information is submitted, the volunteer’s name will be matched through the council’s database of registered leaders. If the name is matched, the volunteer will receive a certificate of completion, letter from Jim Terry, Heart of America Council Scout Executive, council youth protection reporting procedures and a course information handout.

To participate in the new online training, go to the Heart of America Council website, www.hoac-bsa.org, go to training, then health and safety, then youth protection. At the bottom of that page you will find a link to the online training. If you have any questions, please contact Britt Davis, the Council Training Director at 816.942.9333 or jdavis@bsamail.org.

To complete this training, you will need the i.d. number on the bottom of your registration card.
