Storm Strikes Camp Lone Star July 5 just after dawn
All the scouts made it through the 70 mph straight line winds that struck camp at about 6 am Monday. They were physically injury free though some of their possessions took a beating. One small pod of tents had the canvas blowing horizontally but trees provided protection from the worst of the winds. The winds came without warning and quickly abated. The parade ground lost an old tree and some of our scouters collected samples of wood to carve new claws.

With the help of another troop, our scouts and scouters quickly recovered and staked down the tents. Unfortunately, along with Josh Graham's swim trunks and a few other personal items of scouts, the power was also lost. Power was restored at approximately 9:30 pm the same night. Until that point there were no showers because of a water shortage created by loss of power to the pumps. K.P. duty was a little easier Monday since food was served on paper plates and consisted of potato chips and sandwiches. Supper was hot ravioli and green beans shipped in from town.

Mr. Dunfee continued in his woeful demonstrations of fire building. When called upon, he could not light his match on a floor doused with water. Monday night's campsite campfire was a fun time watching the older scouts play "Snap". The younger scouts were a little in awe when the runners of the tribe of Mic-O-Say came into the fire ring and called out the Braves from the troop.

Sunday night's opening campfire included Andrew Grace being staked to the ground as part of a skit. He was meant to be bait for the mean old scoutmasters. Andrew and Chris Dodson are working camp staff this year. Mr. Goertz and Mr. Dillman are also working on camp staff during this session. It's nice to have some of our own looking out for our scouts.

Merit badge classes have continued despite the weather.

By the time the scouts have their own sons they'll be telling the story of 300 mile per hour winds and a lack of water and power for the whole session. Since Bartle Scout Reservation functioned without power or running water for 40 years, we're glad the troop showed Bartle can still function without those luxuries.

NOTE: ALL of these photos were taken AFTER the wind storm and while there was no power or showers and limited water. Be proud of our scouts and their smiling faces.
