Camporee at Smithville Lake
October 18-20, 2002
Troop 376 was successful at Camporee again this year. The
Beaver Patrol won a 17" aluminum Dutch Oven which they donated to the Troop
during the Patrol competitions. They constructed their shelter in a record 2
minute time with every knot properly tied. The Webelos Wolverine Den from Pack
376 also won the Den competition. Our Troop was chosen to perform opening flag
ceremonies because of our sharp appearance.
Everyone was happy with the plethora of beads for our coup
belts. Two black coups for freezing temperatures Saturday night, two blue coups
for the downpour we weathered on Friday night while setting up camp, two stars
and two cubes for Camporee, and a patch!
Food was wonderful and everyone watched in wonder as the 14
turkeys were removed from the giant smoker and lined up for viewing. All of the
Dutch Ovens were put into action for the au gratin potatoes and green beans. The
new donut fryer (thanks Dunfee) worked like a dream. The donut production line
never worked more smoothly. 800 donuts were fried and eaten. We also scrambled 360 eggs, 50 pounds of sausage,
30 gallons of soup, and
countless hash browns for breakfast. Did all of the turkeys, sausage and
potatoes get eaten? Darn right they did!
Thanks Scouts and Scouters for putting on a good spread for
the Cub Scout Pack.

Sorry about the lack of photos. The parking police kept the
photographer's car and cameras too far from the camp site to retrieve.
