Camp Geiger at St. Joseph, Missouri
Saturday December 13, 2003
Trip Report by Jamiel Yameen
On December 13th, Scouts and Scouters drove north on I-29 to Camp Geiger,
just north of St. Joseph. Geiger is the original home and genesis of the Tribe of MIc-O-Say.
There were questions in many minds as to whether or not we should or were going camping, but you
Troop 376, never to cold and the snow could hardly be deep enough to keep us away. Anyway, with snoe blowing in our faces we drove north. By the time we arrived, the snow had stopped, the sky had cleared and we had a beautiful 6 - 8" base to camp on or in.
Once camp was established and lunch eaten, we began working on scout skills to prepare us for the annual winter competition at Klondike.
The skills practiced included first aid, fire building, knots and lashing, and an orientering course. There was something else, but Mr. Yameen is getting old and couldn't remember.
After working on skills some tribesmen took walks to She-She-Be Point for a visit, others worked on snowball making and throughing and preparing dinner around dusk.
All in all a good trip, it is always fun to camp in the snow and we were glad to have the chance and practice out skills. You even learn when bad things happen, like rolling in the snow unitl you are wet and cold and it's 25 degrees.
