Troop Guide Joe helps Mr. Adams teach the first years how to cut their fingers cleanly with an axe or bow saw

We had perfect weather for our Survival Camp near Clinton Lake in Lawrence, Kansas. We were fortunate to have the Staiteh family offer their land and lake for our use. Scouts built an interesting array of shelters and had good food. Ryan's treehouse shelter collapsed onto Brian's hammock but there were no injuries. Foods varied considerably. There was a roast chicken on a spit, eggs in orange peels, steaks on rocks, baked potatoes, corn on the cob, dutch oven dessert, brownies, paper bag breakfast, bread on a stick, etc. Older scouts were allowed to do some canoeing and first year scouts learned about soil erosion and the importance of rocks in preventing it. Troop guide Joe helped Mr. Adams teach the 1st years about using an axe and bow saw. All in all, it was a great time in an incredible setting.
